I'm not very big on politics...
...but should I be???
Driving down Western one day, I passed the American Women's Health Center and noticed a group of silent protestors lined along the front sidewalk. I don't know their affiliation, but I their message was clear- they were protesting abortion. Of course, I nodded my head in approval as I passed the Center. These people- whoever they are- were fighting for something that I feel very strongly about.
And that was it? That's all I had to offer? My nonverbal affirmation of their good work???!
This caused me to wonder-- does my anti-abortion argument even hold any ground if all it is is TALK? Have I ever even tried to make a difference? Have I ever tried to increase awareness? Have I ever researched the depths of moral issues in our society and the government's stance on them? It seems I have created a dichotomy where my personal life is separate from the national state....

not very big on politics??!! i think you're misunderstanding or misinterpreting what politics are. "The art or science of government or governing, especially the governing of a political entity, such as a nation, and the administration and control of its internal and external affairs." the very fact that you are an active Christian implies you ARE very big in politics. you don't have to be verbal or active in the sense that you are out there holding signs on pitchforks or in a rally speaking in front of the masses. whenever ANYONE is told by you of your faith, it AUTOMATICALLY implies your politial stance. don't forget the power in CLAIMING your Christian beliefs! you are right that maybe we should investigate the matters and to stand for justice and an ethically/morally sound society. don't forget you're friends with me!! (that'll never allow you to be politically passive or a foolish pacifist!) :-D

Thank you for your comment. And you're right- by claiming my Christian beliefs I am speaking the truth, which will make an impact. But, I still don't feel like I am a part of the politics in the world at large. Did I vote for Bush because I feel safe with him as president, or because I actually understood all of his domestic and foreign policies? I feel so ignorant sometimes (when it comes to this) and I don't want to be anymore! I want to be informed! I want to be educated! I want to make a difference!
